Information Society Events

The conference will provide a unique opportunity to discuss the complementary aspects involved in making an accessible Information Society a reality in Europe. It will provide an opportunity to hear at first-hand about experiences from users with disabilities, public organisations and industry. The speakers are specialists involved in organisations representing users and consumers with disabilities, research organisations and companies operating at a European level or worldwide. The conference will also consider the harmonisation of good practices over Europe.

We all know that our energy use must change so that the future is different from the situation that exists today. The use of new and renewable energy sources must be increased, energy needs to be used more efficiently, and the future has to be low-carbon. These are the challenges that the EUSEW aims to address. The EUSEW is the key annual event of the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign: the next edition will take place 22-26 March 2010. eLearning Africa is a conference that focuses on information and communication technologies (ICTs) for development, education and training in Africa. Serving as a pan-African platform, eLearning Africa links a network of decision makers from governments and administrations with universities, schools, governmental and private training providers, industry and important partners in development cooperation. Conference languages are English and French. The event will be accompanied by an exhibition.

During this event, the results of the "Intelligent Robotic Porter System Project" (IRPS) will be presented to the press and the public at large with a live demonstration of the IRPS service. Attendance is free, but prior registration is required.

This event is organised by Cable Europe, a trade association that groups all leading broadband cable TV operators and their national trade associations throughout Europe. The event aims to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information, by giving insight into the technologies, services and business models that are shaping consumer behaviour.

The European Film Awards are presented annually by the European Film Academy to recognize excellence in European cinematic achievements. Different awards will be given in categories such as European Film of the Year, European Director, European Actress and Actor. This year, 46 out of 48 films nominated in the various categories received support from MEDIA, the European Union programme designed to support the EU's audio-visual industry.

The "ICT for Health" unit from the European Commission is organising this workshop that aims to define possible research topics in the area of Personal Health Systems (PHS), within the FP7 ICT Work Programmes.

eVIA is the Spanish Technological Platform for eHealth, eWellness and Social Cohesion. eVIA gathers stakeholders, end-users, associations, public administrations, industry and researchers, intending to promote effective and market oriented R&D. At this General Assembly new working groups will be launched in the areas of eHealth, such as interoperability, privacy, telemedicine, citizens involvement; eAccessibility: interoperability, digital TV, ICT for physical accessibility, accessibility in tourism. The existing groups will share their progress and last activities : Social Spaces for Innovation and Research, AAL, technology watch, accessible entertainment and rehabilitation, inclusion of minorities, Assistive technologies, eLearning and other areas.

The event aims to drive progress in the transition to an energy-efficient and low-carbon economy, following the terms of the recently adopted Recommendation on that topic. Through this Recommendation, the Commission calls on the ICT sector to agree on common methodologies for measuring energy consumption and carbon emissions by 2010. Furthermore, addressing EU Member States and the ICT sector, it aims to unlock energy efficiency potential through more public-private partnership initiatives and also through partnerships between the ICT industry and defined strategic sectors. At the conference, the protagonists will be Member States, local/regional authorities, the ICT industry, the energy-intensive industry (construction, transport, manufacturing, power distribution and lighting) and civil society. The event is organised by the European Commission's Information Society and Media Directorate-General, in cooperation with the Spanish Presidency of the European Union. It will include a conference, parallel sessions, an exhibition and the best ICT4EE Project Award Ceremony.

"ICT and climate change" will be the main theme of this event organised by the European Telecommunications Network Operators’ Association (ETNO). Through a live video link, participants will be able to exchange with experts working on climate change issues at remote places, such as the Princess Elisabeth Polar Stations. The live connections will be followed by a panel debate on the key contribution of ICT to sustainability with representatives of all key stakeholders, including Jo Leinen, MEP, Chair of the European Parliament's Environmental Committee and Fabio Colasanti, Director General at the Information Society and Media DG of the European Commission.

The workshop aims to identify RTD achievements in relation to the Action Plan on Information and Communication Technologies and Ageing ; and at examining what issues deserve particular attention in further work programmes. Participants are requested to fill in a questionnaire in preparation of the workshop.

The VPHOP project is organising this event in connection with the IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis and the 10th European Congress on Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis.

This workshop will focus on the business and market impacts of some of the key cognitive radio and cognitive networks solutions currently being developed by the industry and the E3 Project. The event will feature an introductive session with official presentation from European Delegates, then dedicated sessions focusing on business and regulatory perspectives, technical concepts and solutions, and standardization and exploitation roadmaps. Participation to the day programme of the workshop is free of charge, but prior registration is required.

The World of Health IT Conference & Exhibition (WoHIT) will for the first time be held in conjunction with the European Union’s annual High Level eHealth Conference. This will offer a large networking and discussion platform for all eHealth stakeholders. The exhibition has already 60 confirmed exhibitors and 3 country pavilions (see http://expocad.himss.org/expocadvr/shows/10wohit/start.html).

Several FP7 research projects on Future Networks arrive at a stage where real results are being produced. The key goal of this workshop is to identify potential needs for standardization or pre-standardization of Future Network Technologies at ETSI, especially on infrastructure or network technology issues.

At this Ministerial Conference, high-level speakers and 1000 delegates representing Member States, EFTA and candidate countries, the European Commission, international and regional organisations, leaders of the ICT industry, as well as academia will meet in more than 20 sessions to discuss topics of particular interest in the field of eGovernment. The plenary sessions and three of the parallel sessions will be webcast live and on demand.

The conference addresses all issues related to universal access, including universal design of computing systems, the evaluation of such systems, guidelines, legislature, training programmes, research results and overall best practices and experiences.

The European Commission is organising a workshop on codes of conduct on audiovisual commercial communications of foods high in fat, sugar and salt to children. The newly adopted Audiovisual Media Services Directive places an obligation on the Commission to encourage media service providers (both traditional and on-demand) (art. 3e (2) of the Audiovisual Media services – AVMS - Directive) to develop codes of conduct relating to audiovisual commercial communications for HFSS food to children.

This event will cover the European Commission's FP7 ICT Work Programmes for 2009-10 and 2011-12 with a focus on Call 6. The rules for participation and the way to write a proposal will be explained. Slovenian stakeholders' experiences and the role of the Slovenian National Contact Point will be highlighted. Useful advice on how to find partners will also be offered.

This FP7 Consultation meeting organised by the European Commission will bring together experts from all over Europe. The objective of the workshop is to review current trends in research and applications and provide strategic guidance for drafting the ICT Work Programme 2011/2012. The workshop is focused on the topic of service and social robotics for Ageing Well and should result in possible future orientations for application driven research in this field, in particular with a view to practical deployment in real-life situations and industrial exploitation.
