KEYNOTE
ADDRESS OF THE NEW SECRETARY GENERAL
It
is with great pleasure that I address you as the new Secretary
General of the EMF. I thank the Board Directors for their
trust in appointing me.
One is always tempted to renew an organization once one is
in the position to do so. I want to resist this temptation.
I recently read a quote of Umberto Eco: "Only in having
a look backwards you will be able to anticipate what will
come". Together with the Board of Directors, I plan to
reinforce the established strengths of the EMF –
business networking at European level; leveraging
national efforts towards a European dimension;
using private and public partnerships as
well as funding opportunities for the membership and other
European enterprises in the information sector – while
putting more emphasis on visibility at all
levels.
In
the short term, we will add some features on the EMF website
that will offer additional value to our members:
- a web page with publications and studies,
stemming from projects, that can be downloaded
- a web page for women entrepreneurs that
will take up the results of the WISE project and expand them
- Issuance of policy papers and articles
that will help shape the economic environment for European
companies in the information sector.
Finally, let me draw your attention to our flagship project,
the LEXELERATOR, the
free knowledge source on legal issues in e-business, geared
at SMEs (resulting from the EU FP6 supported LEKTOR
project). Its Web 2.0 tools render information services
to companies that do not have their own in-house lawyer or
legal department, and will serve as common platform for legal
knowledge exchange together with legal professionals.
The EMF will not be a "one-woman-show". Together
with my staff and the
collaborators, Board Directors and advisors, I invite YOU
to help us shape our services to the market needs, YOUR needs.
I am looking forward to these challenges and to a continuous
and fruitful collaboration with YOU!
